LITIGATION SKILLS:
My litigation experience has been broad-based. During my years in private practice, I primarily represented plaintiffs in personal injury cases. Over the next nine years, I was in-house counsel for three utility companies: Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Arizona Public Service Company, and U S WEST, Inc., where my focus was on litigation defense.
I have served as lead counsel in more than 15 jury trials in Arizona, Kansas and Missouri. Since moving to Arizona in 1986, I have defended significant cases involving electrical burns, closed head trauma and spinal injuries. My experience also includes commercial litigation involving construction disputes. Additionally, I have represented management in employment and commercial contract dispute cases filed with the American Arbitration Association.
WRITING SKILLS:
In addition to my law review experience, I have written numerous briefs throughout my career — including briefs for the Arizona Court of Appeals, Kansas Supreme Court, Missouri Court of Appeals, and 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. Similarly, my regulatory practice required the preparation of significant written briefs and motions. I have filed comprehensive briefs with the Arizona Corporation Commission on various complex legal issues of constitutional and regulatory law, economic and accounting concepts, and ratemaking principles.
